Arz is the nodal social work organization delivering
rehabilitative services to inmates of the State Protective Home (SPH)
in Merces, Goa, in collaboration with the state government since 2001.
Recreational Activities
Arz goes out of its way to make the SPH inmates feel
at home. During Ganesh Chathurthi, as it was not possible for the
inmates to leave the SPH on account of security reason, Arz provided
the inmates with new clothes, a Ganesha statue and sweets, so that
the inmates could celebrate the festival and enjoy themselves at
the protective home.

The services that Arz provides at theSPH focuses on the
inmates' self-development and self-expression, counselling and recreation.
Activities pertaining to personality enhancement, awareness creation,
emotions handling, understanding importance of roles and responsibilities,
insight into relationships, conflicts handling, crisis management, self-confidence,
self-esteem, handling peer pressure, career selection and trust building
are undertaken by the staff.
Home investigation was conducted of girls who were rescued
in Goa and were originally from West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka
and other states. It was observed that the source for trafficking had
shifted from the southern part of India to the eastern part. There has
been an increase in the trafficking of the girls to Goa from West Bengal.
