#MeToo Victim of SexTrafficking Campaign is a national campaign. The purpose of this campaign is to get the voices of victims of sex trafficking in public domain. The need for this campaign was felt based on the experience that the victims of sex trafficking are not seen as victim of sexual violence.
Victims of sex trafficking viewed as "prostitutes", who are different from other girls and women and cannot be raped. It is a common view that the girls and women get into commercial sexual activity willingly, because of easy money, lot of money, sexual problems, etc. One of the major reasons for this misinformation has been that the public is not aware about the real situation of victims of sex trafficking, as the victims do not communicate directly with public.
The victims due to fear of being identified and harassed do not come in public and share their experiences and demands. Lack of sharing by the victims causes misinformation about the reason of their entry, life while in prostitution and reasons for not exiting from sexual exploitation.
Most of the information about the victim is either misinformation or motivated information put in public domain by those who are benefitting by this or failing in doing their duty to protect and rehabilitate them.
The perception of the public does play a key role in action by law enforcement agencies and in legislating laws and policies relating to victims of sex trafficking.
It is only the voices of victims of sex trafficking would help ensuring, correct information about reason of their entry in commercial sexual activity, life while in commercial sexual exploitation and reasons for unable to exit from commercial sexual exploitation.
