MUKTI: Anti-Trafficking Efforts

Fight Against Exploitation

ARZ works intensively with victims of sexual abuse and commercial sexual exploitation to combat trafficking. Our focus spans across rehabilitation, rescue, protection, health, repatriation, aftercare, and prosecution of traffickers. These services are primarily concentrated in the areas of Calangute, Anjuna, Baga, and Panjim, due to the high incidence of trafficking in these popular tourist destinations.

25 Years of Impact

After 25 years of dedicated work in combating human trafficking in Goa, ARZ has successfully prevented new entries of girls and women into commercial sexual exploitation (CSE) in Baina. By initiating economic rehabilitation programs, ARZ has provided alternative livelihood options for women and girls who were previously exploited or were vulnerable to exploitation.

Rescue Operations

ARZ collaborates closely with the Goa Police during rescue operations at various locations throughout Goa. A social worker and a lawyer typically accompany the police to ensure the protection and privacy of the victim, preventing any harassment or abuse during the vulnerable period post-rescue. Through on-the-spot

counseling and social work interventions, ARZ aims to make the entire process-from rescue to admission in the protective home—victim-friendly. This includes accompanying victims during statement recordings, crucial for detailing the modus operandi of trafficking and identifying traffickers and their networks.

Prosecution

ARZ is committed to prosecuting all individuals responsible for commercial sexual exploitation or sexual abuse. We follow up on cases related to CSE, rape, child labor, and domestic violence. Our support includes meeting with the public prosecutor, preparing witnesses for depositions, accompanying them to court, and assisting the aggrieved party in filing domestic violence cases. By ensuring thorough legal follow-up, ARZ aims to bring justice to the victims and hold perpetrators accountable.
